About the Azido Derivatives of Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate

With the first ever synthesis of monoazidopentaerythritol trinitrate, a comparative study properties all azidonitrate derivatives from pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) to tetraazidopentaerythritol (TAPE) was possible. The azides were prepared by halogen azide exchange and remaining alcohols then converted into organic nitrate esters using acetyl nitrate. resulting compounds (PETN), mononitrate (MAPETN), diazidopentaerythritol dinitrate (DAPEDN), triazidopentaerythritol (TAPEMN), analyzed for their chemical (XRD, NMR, EA, IR) energetic (DTA/DSC, impact friction sensitivity) presented comparison. An interesting trend decreasing melting points PETN triazide observed, with monoazide found meet thermal requirements melt-castable explosive. mechanical sensitivities successfully explained Hirshfeld analysis. calculated EXPLO5 code show performance towards highly sensitive tetraazido derivative. Furthermore, initiated its derivative TAPE.
